1968 DETROIT TIGERS MASTER GAME REPLAY UPDATE

Dennis leads charmed life!!
While there is no doubt Dennis Dale McLain had a helluva year pitching in the Year of the Pitcher, there was a bit of luck involved for Dolph to win 31 games.
That carried over to my replay in Game No. 39 — Denny’s 10th start
The Oakland A’s hit Dennis pretty hard — Jim Pagliaroni hit a 2-run shot in the 2nd, Sal Bando tripled in a run in the 3rd and Lew Krausse’s 2-out double drove in a run in the 4th.
That gave the A’s a 4-2 lead.
The Tigers pulled within 4-3 in the 7th on singles by Cash and Wert, and after two popups, McAuliffe singled in Stormin Norman.
Then came a crazy 9th.
The A’s best pitcher, Diego Segui (15X), relieved in the 8th.
Cash led off with a single but Wert flew to left and pinch-hitter Eddie Mathews popped out to third.
One more out and Dennis is saddled with the loss.
Earl Wilson pinch hit and rolled 33-0 — the second column has 23 1s and 13 2s — and I roll a 54-2.
OK, that ties the game. But it looks like Dennis will lose a shot at a win.
But this is 1968, it’s the Tigers and Dennis is pitching.
McAuliffe rolls 53-19 — Bando stays a 2 fielding at 3B and makes a 1-base error.
